El Berriel Airport (GCLB)

by Michael2026-02-08 19:46:32 UTC

The airfield is owned and operated by a large flight school called CANAVIA. It’s advised to reach out to them as PPR is required. If you’re on vacation, you can rent a cessna for island hopping - highly recommended!

The airfield is easy to find and procedures are very straightforward. On the approach expect some windshear. The runway itself is shaped like a hill, so depending on what direction you approach from, you may only see half of it on short final.

From the airfield, you can take a taxi to the nearest beach. There’s no gastronomy on site but a vending machine.

Tasinge/Elvira Madigan Airport (EKST)

by Michael2026-02-05 09:34:33 UTC

Decent GA Airfield in great location. Classic self-service with landing fees being paid in an envelope in the club house.

Located in the "Danish Caribbean", it is a great destination to explore the "sailing capital" of Svendborg. There are also very nice AirBnb opinions in the vicinity of the field.

There is no transportation available on site, so you'll need to call a taxi. It will take 10-15'.

Make sure you don't overfly the sensitive areas.

Höganäs Airport (ESMH)

by Michael2026-02-05 09:23:39 UTC

Absolutely fantastic GA Airfield!

AVGAS available and the local flying club is helping you out if you need something.

You can even stay in one of their huts and they help you out with rental cars or whatever you need.

Just call them in advance to be sure someone is actually on site.

The location close to the sea makes it a great weekend getaway with the plane!

Ängelholm Airport (ESTA)

by Michael2026-02-05 09:21:10 UTC

Great GA Airfield. Hassle-free and no handling required. Landing fees reasonable.

The GA Apron can be accessed via a Gate where you need to show your ID and name your tail registration.

No AVGAS available, only JET A1.

Rental cars available on site from more than 1 supplier.

Hamburg Airport (EDDH)

by Michael2026-01-30 09:20:47 UTC

Very GA-friendly large airport. If you arrive VFR, you can always ask the controller for a sightseeing orbit over the harbor and the alster. They are highly collaborative, very friendly and professional.

Due to the above, expect quite some VFR traffic of all sorts over the city, especially on sunny days.

A proper briefing regarding taxiways is recommended upfront as depending on your landing and departure runway, you might be required to cross runways, etc. Ahead of the apron, a follow-me car will pick you up.

From the GAT you can either take a taxi to the city centre (40EUR) or walk 15min to the S-Bahn station. Next to the GAT, there is the Café Himmelsschreiber, where you can grab a decent bite, view departing airplanes and also use the restroom whilst you wait for your taxi.

Kikity Airport (EPKI)

by Michael2025-12-03 13:07:10 UTC

Fabulous GA airfield with accomodation and restaurant directly next to a Masurian lake which has great swimming options. It is recommended to call the owner first to make sure someone is on site.

Landing recommended only on RWY29 and Take-Off only on RWY11 due to the slope and the forest at the end of RWY11. Traffic pattern is south of the airstrip.

There is no fuel available and bringing tie-downs is recommended.

Landing fees typically waived if you eat in the restaurant. Expect some birds in the bird migrating season.

Borkum Airport (EDWR)

by Michael2025-12-03 12:55:00 UTC

Very good GA Airfield in the North Frisian islands. Grass parking is available widely - bring your tie-downs, as it can be rather windy.

Restaurant is available, so are bicycles for rent in a small shed. You can even stay in a hotel at the airfield.

The ride into the village takes about 10-15min, to the beach it is less than 10min.

Magdeburg City Airport (EDBM)

by Michael2025-12-03 12:28:52 UTC

A decent airfield for General Aviation (both VFR and IFR). The close proximity to Magdeburg city is a real benefit! Refuelling is possible with a BP card.

Parking spots are available in abundance. Don't forget to bring your own tie-downs.

The tram is a 10min walk by foot and takes you directly into the city center.

The missing star to the 5 star review is due to the fact that there is no restaurant on site.

Before you depart, don't forget to take the stairs up to the tower and pay all fees etc. (ring the bell first, the tower will open the door).

Schoenhagen Airport (EDAZ)

by Michael2025-12-02 08:41:19 UTC

Great airfield in the South of Berlin. Expect quite a bit of traffic in the pattern and report your positions well in advance and in brief (as the frequency tends to be quite busy).

Watch out the airspace around EDDB - it is amongst the most infringed in Germany and Class C starts at 1,500ft North of EDAZ.

The restaurant on site in EDAZ is really good and they even have accomodation on site in case you plan to do a quick layover.

EDAZ is also home to quite a few options to charter aircraft.

The only downside is the distance to public transportation, but the airport offers a shuttle to the next train station (Trebbin), from where trains take you to the center in about 30min.

Rendsburg Schachtholm Airport (EDXR)

by Michael2025-11-20 10:44:40 UTC

Great airfield for General Aviation.

It's one of the few fields that is open 24/7 and has a very moderate PPR fee to do Night training.

If you're on a training, you can also get a "Flat Rate" for T&G landings.

100% recommendation from my side!!

Langeoog Airport (EDWL)

by Michael2025-10-21 10:57:35 UTC

Great GA Airfield with one paved runway. Due to its location on one of the frisian islands, expect regular crosswind.

Unfortunately no gastronomic options on site, but the next restaurant is only a few min walk away (depending on the season there could be more or less open restaurants).

The island is a car-free island, so you can order a horse-drawn chariot to pick you and your luggage at the airport. Otherwise, the town is only a casual 20min stroll away and also very doable with luggage.

In the spring and fall season, be aware of the sea fog which can very quickly turn a great VFR day into a no-fly operation.

Letnany Airport (LKLT)

by Michael2025-10-21 10:53:37 UTC

Before approaching Letnany, make sure to inform yourself about the procedures upfront both on the website as well as in the AIP.

Given that you will need to cross military airspace, contacting Kbely Tower is mandatory, but the guys there are super friendly and supportive. Due to LKLT being the primary GA airfield in Prague with some flight schools located there as well, expect a busy radio frequency.

On the ground, be aware of the taxiways being a bit bumpy (no high speed taxi) and ensure that you communicate your intentions with the local tower.

Fees can be paid via Aerops and on site you can buy a few refreshments.

Zell Am See Airport (LOWZ)

by Michael2025-10-02 11:34:09 UTC

LOWZ is one of the GA jewels in Austria (and beyond). Due to the special pattern, the encompassing terrain as well as the entry / exit procedures, a proper briefing before departure is mandatory.

I have a few times seen pilots approaching the wrong runway, which is an absolutely unacceptable mistake that can easily kill!

Great restaurant on site, accomodation recommendation is the Tauern Spa Kaprun.

Warszawa Babice Airport (EPBC)

by Michael2025-10-02 11:22:16 UTC

Great GA airfield with long opening hours, allowing for VFR Night approaches also. The controllers speak good English but most of the local pilots report their position in Polish. The airspace around the airfield is complex (with EPWA just around and above), so please familiarize yourself with it upfront. The pattern is also not in a rectangular, but a special shape. Due to a few flight schools being located at EPBC, you can expect quite a bit of traffic. An Uber to the city center can be ordered quickly and usually only costs between 15 and 20EUR

Billund Airport (EKBI)

by Michael2025-10-02 08:30:04 UTC

Easy approach and quite straightforward communication with EKBI Tower Controller. Handling is mandatory - you can choose between 3 FBOs (JoinJet, Blackbird, Air Alsie). Join Jet is for small GA the most economic (the others were up to 4 times more expensive) and also a really great FBO! They deliver you to the hotel and pick you up on demand. Free F&B in the lounge.

Prices for a weekend with a C-172 (VFR, 3pax, 2 nights): - airport fee: 94EUR - parking: 25EUR / day - Pax fee: 27EUR / person - Handling: 300EUR (50EUR during weekdays from 0800-1600LT) - 25% Tax

Accomodation recommendation: The Lodge Billund - right next to legoland and lalandia, but without the usual Lego "surcharge" and with a really healthy breakfast
