Civil Airfield Warszawa Babice (EPBC)

EPBC offers convenient access to Warsaw with a strong general aviation focus. The airport operates under AFIS, with non-standard traffic circuits and altitude limitations due to glider activity and airspace structure; circuit entry and procedures require careful attention, especially near the Foxtrott corridor and RMZ restrictions (do not climb above 1,500 ft on departure until handed over to Warsaw Information). The traffic pattern is unusual, and noise abatement rules apply. AFIS staff may use non-standard phraseology such as “cleared to land”; maintain situational awareness and do not treat AFIS instructions as ATC clearances. IFR arrivals are possible but expect radar service termination below 4,000 ft; coordination with FIS can facilitate transitions through controlled airspace.

English proficiency is generally limited to AFIS personnel; most ground staff speak only Polish. Arranging for an English-speaking AFIS officer is possible with advance notice (24–48 hours recommended). Communication aids or translation apps are helpful for administrative tasks. Payment of landing and parking fees is handled in the tower building, typically by card. Example: landing and two nights’ parking about €80; another example: landing about €20–€30 including one night’s parking. Fees are moderate for the location, VAT inclusive.

AVGAS and Jet A-1 are available via fuel truck (PKN Orlen); request fueling in advance via AFIS or by calling +48 603 089 670. Payment by card is standard. Fueling occurs at Hangar 4 or at the southwest corner near the tower; the fuel truck comes directly to the aircraft.

Parking is mainly on grass near the tower; tie-down rings are not present in the ground—bring your own ropes if needed. The main runway is in good condition, though some taxiways and grass areas can be uneven or marked with flags; exercise caution when taxiing, especially during busy periods or when backtracking for departure.

Ground transport options are excellent: Bolt or Uber rides to central Warsaw cost around 45 PLN each way, while tram line 20 is within a 7–15 minute walk from the airport gate, with tickets costing about 4–5 PLN (~€1). Taxis typically cost €10–€15 to the city center. When using ride-hailing apps, ensure you select the correct airport location (“Lotnisko Bemowo” at ul.gen. Sylwestra Kaliskiego 57) to avoid confusion.

No PPR or flight plan required for VFR arrivals under normal circumstances. For customs/immigration or special requirements, consult AIP/NOTAMs as procedures may vary.

EPBC is well-suited for non-commercial GA visits to Warsaw, offering friendly service, efficient city access, reliable fueling, and moderate fees; however, pilots should prepare for language barriers and pay close attention to local procedures and circuit constraints.
