Pilot Comments for EDBM
Michael
A decent airfield for General Aviation (both VFR and IFR). The close proximity to Magdeburg city is a real benefit! Refuelling is possible with a BP card.
Parking spots are available in abundance. Don't forget to bring your own tie-downs.
The tram is a 10min walk by foot and takes you directly into the city center.
The missing star to the 5 star review is due to the fact that there is no restaurant on site.
Before you depart, don't forget to take the stairs up to the tower and pay all fees etc. (ring the bell first, the tower will open the door).

Magdeburg City (EDBM) is a GA-friendly airport with both VFR and IFR operations, including RNAV/GPS approaches and SIDs in both directions. IFR arrivals incur a separate approach fee in addition to the landing fee, making IFR operations significantly more expensive than VFR for aircraft under 2 tonnes. Example: landing and three days parking about €50; IFR approach about €50; combined landing and noise fee about €80; VFR landing fees typically range from about €10 to €60 depending on weight and services. Parking is available in front of the terminal or restaurant, though tie-down options are limited in some areas.
The airport offers good infrastructure, with professional and friendly ATC and ground staff. Payment for fees is possible via Aerops or at the restaurant when open. The on-field restaurant is frequently praised for quality and service, though availability can vary due to closures or maintenance; it features both indoor and outdoor seating and a menu tailored for pilots. Fuel (including Mogas and Avgas) is available, with prices posted on the airport website.
Ground transport options include a tram stop within 7–15 minutes on foot, providing direct access to Magdeburg city center. Taxis are available, with fares to the city center typically around €20–€50 depending on distance. Car hire via app2drive has been advertised but may not always be available.
The circuit pattern is tight, with glider activity and parachuting present; motor traffic uses the southern pattern. Caution is advised for parallel operations on grass and paved runways during busy periods. Customs/immigration requires prior notice: customs PN 48h before 2pm local time, immigration PN 48h.
Overall, EDBM provides comprehensive facilities and convenient access to Magdeburg, but IFR users should be aware of higher fees compared to VFR. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
