Civil Airfield Mainbullau (EDFU)

EDFU (Mainbullau) is a hilltop airfield with a distinctive sloped runway, offering challenging approaches, especially to runway 05, which is steeply downhill and requires precise flare and braking. Approaches to 23 are preferred with light tailwind, as landing uphill shortens the rollout. The airfield operates mostly without a flight information service, fostering a relaxed atmosphere; PPR may be required at times, particularly in winter. The restaurant "Zur Fliegerei" is open and offers fresh cuisine with a beer garden and occasional events; reserving a table is recommended. Facilities include a competent on-field maintenance shop and limited parking, with caution advised when parking on wet grass or during periods when grass taxiways are unusable due to soft ground. A loaner scooter has been available but may not always be operational; plans for a rental car have been mentioned. Mainbullau village is about 10 minutes on foot, while Miltenberg can be reached by taxi (around €20 one way).

The airfield is known for friendly staff and a welcoming club atmosphere. Safety notes include possible turbulence or downdrafts on short final due to terrain and wind, especially for runway 05, and occasional parachuting activity—check with the tower on arrival. The airfield's location provides scenic views over the Odenwald and Maintal, making it popular for both flying and leisure visits.
