Syros / Dimitrios Vikelas Airport (LGSO)

LGSO requires 24-hour PPR and has somewhat limited opening hours, typically half-day operations. Handling is mandatory, provided by Skyserv, with staff described as very friendly and efficient. AFIS provides clear information. Both Avgas (100LL) and JetA1 are available, with Avgas accessible via BP or credit card; fuel prices are considered high. Long-term parking is possible without issue, and parking arrangements are flexible even for extended stays.

Fees are generally described as fair or cheap for general aviation, especially with an AOPA discount. Example: landing and handling about €70–€120 for stays of several days to a week with AOPA discount. There is a charge of about €40 per customs check, which may be added for international flights. Handling fees are included in the total when using AOPA membership.

Customs and immigration can be arranged but may be limited to intra-Schengen flights; procedures vary—see AIP/NOTAM for current entry requirements. Border control can be organized on request.

The airport is located about 5 minutes by taxi from the main port, which offers ferry connections to other islands. Taxi fare to the city is about €10. Ermoupolis, the island’s main town, is nearby and offers neo-classical hotels and local attractions.

Approach features hilly terrain on short final to runway 17; downdrafts may occur on final approach. Operations are not managed by Fraport Greece, resulting in a relaxed atmosphere with few commercial flights and low traffic density.

LGSO is considered highly suitable for non-commercial general aviation use in Greece, offering friendly service, reliable fuel availability, flexible parking, and convenient access to Syros and neighboring islands.
