Civil Airfield Worms (EDFV)

EDFV welcomes both direct and circuit approaches, with direct arrivals generally preferred due to local noise sensitivity. The airfield operates with generous opening hours and a straightforward VFR environment; IFR procedures are not mentioned. The circuit area includes glider and ultralight activity, requiring vigilance. Some local communities are highly sensitive to noise, so minimizing pattern work is advised. There is a strict policy restricting airfield access on foot to those with explicit permission or arriving/departing by aircraft.

Landing fees are described as medium to high for the region, with examples ranging from about €10 to €20 for smaller aircraft and up to about €40 for larger types on weekdays; weekend surcharges apply, and longer stays or heavier aircraft can result in higher totals. Example: landing and three days parking about €80. Payment is generally cash only; card payment and AEROPS are not available. Parking is mainly on grass, which can be uneven or soft after rain, but some hardstand spots exist near the tower. Grass parking is only suitable for lighter aircraft when dry; the surface may have holes or require high power to exit after wet weather.

The on-field restaurant offers a broad menu and is regularly praised for quality and value. Bicycles are available for hire (about €5 per day), providing a 20-minute ride into Worms city center mostly via cycle paths; taxis cost around €10–15 each way. Public transport access is limited, with the nearest train station 1.5 km away by foot along a main road.

Ground handling is generally professional, though experiences with flight operations staff vary from very friendly to occasionally abrupt or overly strict, including document checks and enforcement of field rules. Courtesy cars or free refreshments are no longer available. Aircraft recovery after runway excursions now incurs a fee.

Runway 24 features high-tension power lines near the base turn; approach requires attention to obstacle clearance. Wildlife may cross the runway at dusk. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.

Overall, EDFV provides solid infrastructure for general aviation with adequate facilities, but pilots should expect higher fees than some nearby fields, variable staff interaction, and some operational restrictions tied to local management policies.
