IFR approaches and midfield crossings are possible for general aviation when traffic permits, with friendly and professional ATC. Slot coordination is required in advance for arrivals and departures. Low approaches and midfield crossings may be offered, but flights over Frankfurt city at or below 1500 ft ALT can conflict with SERA minimum height rules; the regional authority may pursue fines for violations, regardless of ATC clearance. The airport is very busy and not beginner-friendly; familiarity with taxiways and frequencies is essential. For most general aviation purposes, alternative airports nearby may be more practical due to cost and operational complexity.
