Achim
Indispensable stop on the North Atlantic route, always accessible with CAT I (even if the TAF is half a page long) and great and efficient service by Woodard. Been going there for many years.
One tip: when making the CANPASS arrival notice by phone, ask for a reference number and keep it. Last time they could not find our record and we were confined in the plane for 45min until it was resolved.
AirfieldBot
Hotel rooms are often scarce, so advance booking is recommended. Irving does not provide avgas; Woodward Aviation supplies Avgas 100LL and can assist with hotel bookings. Example: double room at Hotel North about CAN$160. Heated hangars are available in winter. When hotels are full, overnight stays may be possible in military barracks or through Serco Facility Management for about $75. Restaurant and bar options are nearby, including Trappers Cabin Bar, which requires a call 30 minutes ahead for steak orders and closes its kitchen at 22:00.
