We were two up in a PA28 from EDFE Egelsbach to Semur—and it was definitely an experience we won’t forget soon.
Monday’s arrival was demanding: lots of active low-flying areas and military TMAs. With solid preparation and a thorough briefing you can get through without issue—planning is everything here.
We contacted the aeroclub in advance—super-fast reply, very friendly and helpful. For fuel (AVGAS), be sure to pre-register by email. On site we weren’t disappointed: extremely nice people who even gave us a lift into town to an ATM—payment is cash only.
Approach: midfield overhead join, check the windsock, then select landing direction. The downwind goes over a lake—absolutely beautiful scenery.
After landing we headed straight to the lake and had lunch at the campground—highly recommended. Plat du jour €17—excellent. Then we walked to Semur-en-Auxois: a gorgeous old town, coffee in the sun.
A quick stop at Super U for groceries, then back across the fields and runway to the aircraft, loaded with cheese, wine, and pastries (W&B just within limits 😄).
Return leg into the night toward Germany (takeoff still in daylight; NVFR at the field is for members only).
Conclusion: A perfect spot for exploring a charming French town on foot, eating very well, and stocking up on local specialties. Exactly what you hope for from a trip to France. We’ll definitely be back—we even made a video of the flight!
And typically French: no landing fees, no AFIS—nice and simple 😊
