Civil Airfield Hahnweide (EDST)

Hahnweide is a special airfield (Sonderlandeplatz) near Kirchheim/Teck, about 20 kilometers east of Stuttgart. With two parallel grass runways and a short asphalt runway oriented at an angle to them, it offers ample space for glider and powered operations.
Five aeroclubs operate on site, and the powered flight school of the Baden-Württembergischer Luftfahrtverband (BWLV) is based here.
The traffic pattern is to the south, and on good-weather days expect very heavy traffic in the vicinity of the airfield. Cross-country flights should avoid the field if possible, or contact Hahnweide Radio (125.615) for traffic advisories. This is particularly advisable when the aerobatic box to the north is active up to 5000 ft MSL (check NOTAMs!).
Landings by non-based powered aircraft are only possible with PPR from BWLV, and that is granted only in exceptional cases. Alternatively, the Nabern/Teck airfield (EDTN) nearby is straightforward to fly into. For glider pilots landing out, there is almost always an option for a winch launch or an aerotow retrieve.
The Italian restaurant at the airfield is good. Especially glider pilots in transit also have the option to park a camper and stay one night at Hahnweide. This should definitely be coordinated with Fliegergruppe Wolf Hirth.
All in all, a great airfield that actively shapes the aviation scene with events such as the Hahnweide-Wettbewerb and the Hahnweide-Oldtimertreffen.
