Civil Airfield Innisfail (YIFL)

by Stephen2026-01-09 12:55:53 UTC

Excellently maintained dual runway regional airport. It can be busy with several local ag operators with both fixed and rotary traffic. The CTAF is very large and can and does get busy, especially on weekends and public holidays.

Several flight training providers operate here 7 days a week. Charter services are also available. Landing fees are charged for all aircraft, based on a per tonne rate, with a flat fee for LSA weight class. Billing via AVDATA.

Parking is very limited on the hardstand areas with only a few dedicated spaces where steel tiedown cables are provided. No parking fees.

There is plenty of room to park on grassed areas but you need to provide your own tiedown equipment. Be aware this airport is in one of the wettest regions of Australia and grass surfaces are not suitable for use after rain.

IFR training is common here as YIFL has one of the highest instrument approaches in the country due to the very high terrain to the N & NW of the airport.

The bitumen runway 14/32 is equipped with PAL. Automated readback to confirm activation.

Check ERSA for fuel availability. Town is a short taxi ride away, about 7m on average.

Great food to be had at various locations at the riverfront in town, with Innisfail Seafood, the Innisfail RSL and pubs being popular and Brother's Leagues Club is amazing!
