Pilot Comments for LZIB
Johannes
Last update 2015-08-18: Large airfield, old charm (old helicopter and aircraft wrecks) and new facilities (e.g., GAT/crew buses, etc.). Small airfield festival during our short visit. ATC and Tower very helpful—for example, takeoff clearance issued even before the run-up. GAT incl. passport control (not needed for us). Everyone at the GAT very friendly and helpful. GAT bar; credit cards accepted. Water/Wi‑Fi free of charge. 980 kg MTOW, 1x IFR approach + 1x LDG: €51.41.
Sebastian
Relaxed VFR approach via the published VFR arrival points below 2,000 ft. Parking on Apron C, where handling and the Avgas truck were already waiting. Concrete tie-down bollards are brought by forklift as needed. Swift processing and relaxed security in the separate GA terminal. Taxi into the city (well worth seeing) about €20–25.
For an AA5:
€31.46 landing fees
€33.12 parking for 2 nights
€13.20 concrete tie-downs
€45.60 handling
Avgas was €2.56 per liter.

LZIB offers efficient and friendly service for general aviation, with both VFR and IFR operations handled professionally in English. Handling is mandatory for all GA traffic and includes transport between aircraft and the GA terminal; advance slot or email notification is required, but responses are prompt and the process is straightforward. The GA terminal is modern, clean, and well-equipped, featuring amenities such as lounges, briefing rooms with computers and printers, free WiFi, and refreshments. A VIP lounge with food and drinks is available for about €60 per person.
Fees are generally described as medium to high for the region but considered reasonable for a capital city airport. For landing, handling, and two nights’ parking, examples range from about €130 to €170 depending on duration and services; single-fee examples include landing about €40–€60, handling about €50–€70, parking about €20–€80 for several days. Example: landing, handling, and two nights’ parking about €140. Fuel (Avgas/JetA1) is available but relatively expensive; a low-fuelling surcharge of about €60 applies if less than 30 liters are taken.
Transport to the city center takes 15–20 minutes by taxi or ride-hailing services (about €10–€20), or by bus (Line 61) for around €1 per person. Taxis ordered by phone are significantly cheaper than those from the airport rank; staff can assist with arrangements. Hotels near the airport and in the city are reasonably priced.
VFR arrivals typically route via published points at or below 2000 ft; terrain features such as the TV tower require attention to altitude clearance—requesting 2500 ft may be advisable. ATC may combine tower and ground roles during quiet periods; instructions are clear and accommodating. The apron offers ample space with secure tie-downs provided by handling staff.
Customs and immigration are available H24 without special notice for non-Schengen flights. Overall, LZIB is a practical choice for GA pilots seeking access to Bratislava or as an alternative to Vienna, offering reliable facilities and smooth procedures.
