Pilot Comments for LYTV
ch
Required PPR for parking arrived a few hours after the email request. No other formalities in advance.
Approach from the east (RISAN) was spectacular through the Bay of Kotor. A straight-in with a light tailwind to Rwy 14 was offered—perfect given the very long uphill runway. On the ground, friendly and efficient.
Taxis still a rip-off; even the approved fare of 10€ was adjusted by drivers via sticker to 10–20€ for 3 km.
New departure rules since May: GA carry-on must be “checked in” and is delivered to the aircraft. Also trolleys and kwiggles—trolley damaged in the process.
Payment at the aircraft by credit card or cash. LDG, PKG 2 nights, handling for 1400MTOW & 2 persons: 117€. No Avgas.

Tivat (LYTV) welcomes general aviation but requires prior permission (PPR) for all arrivals, which is typically arranged by email to dispatch.tivat@apm.co.me. Parking is limited and must be confirmed in advance, especially during the busy season. GenDec forms are required before arrival. The airport handles significant commercial and executive jet traffic, so GA operations may be secondary and subject to slot or parking constraints. Both VFR and IFR arrivals are possible; VFR approaches involve holding offshore at 1,000 ft AMSL before entering the valley, and IFR approaches can be demanding due to surrounding terrain and wind conditions. Approaches are scenic but can be turbulent near the mountains.
Handling is mandatory and generally efficient, with friendly staff assisting with parking and check-in. Payment is accepted by card or cash at the aircraft. Fees for landing, handling, and short-term parking typically range from about €60 to €150 for 1–2 nights; longer stays or heavier aircraft can result in higher charges. Example: landing, handling, and two nights’ parking about €90. Additional costs may include infrastructure fees or crew transport (about €30). No Avgas or UL91 is available; only Jet A1 is sold.
Rental cars from major providers are available at the terminal, though counters may not always be staffed—calling ahead is recommended. Taxis are present but fares vary widely; official rates for airport-to-Tivat are about €15–20, while some drivers charge more unless using a metered service like Red Taxi (about €5 into town). There is no public transport directly at the airport; buses run along the coast between Tivat and Kotor for about €4. SIM cards are sold at a small terminal shop.
Customs and immigration are on site with permanent staff; entry with EU national ID cards is accepted. Security procedures require all baggage—including hand luggage—to be checked in and delivered to the aircraft by staff. Departure security can be slow if commercial traffic is heavy or VIPs take priority.
The approach over Kotor Bay offers spectacular views but requires attention to high-voltage lines (do not fly below 1,000 ft in the bay) and mountainous terrain. The airport operates only during daylight hours. The region offers excellent sightseeing, especially Kotor and its bay, though both Tivat and Kotor can be crowded in peak season.
Tivat provides a well-organized experience for non-commercial GA flights willing to arrange PPR in advance and accept moderate-to-high fees, with efficient handling but no Avgas availability.
