Pilot Comments for LQSA
ch
Sarajevo now has a bit more space on the apron for GA. Aircraft are no longer squeezed between snow-removal vehicles and scrap ;-) but are parked properly.
Approach is quite steep due to the basin topography. Departure with tailwind because they didn’t want to reverse the runway direction for CAT — 2 of the runway length not an issue.
€72 for LDG, PKG 2 nights, MTOW 1400 and 2 crew. For departure, contact Info. About 30 min incl. billing and shuttle to the apron.
Taxi about €20 to the city.
No Avgas.

Sarajevo (LQSA) is an international airport with efficient ATC and handling, requiring a slot allocation for all GA flights, including VFR. Slot requests are processed quickly via opc@sarajevo-airport.ba using the form available on the airport website. The apron now offers more space for GA, and aircraft are parked in an orderly manner. There is no dedicated GAT or pilot entrance; access involves standard passenger security and passport control, which can be time-consuming and occasionally chaotic but is managed by helpful staff.
The approach is challenging due to the airport’s location in a valley surrounded by mountains, often requiring steep descents and careful pre-flight preparation. IFR arrivals may involve high minimum altitudes and rapid descents close to the field. Departures may be affected by prevailing winds and airline traffic priorities; procedures vary, so see AIP/NOTAM.
Jet A1 is available, but there is no Avgas. A fuel surcharge applies for uplifts under 1000 liters. Car hire is available in the terminal.
Fees are generally considered low for an international airport. Example: landing, parking (2 nights), and handling about €80–€90; shorter stops can be lower. Example: landing, parking (4 hours), and handling about €60. Passenger fees may apply unless all occupants are declared as crew.
Taxis to the city center cost about €10–€20, with travel times of 15–30 minutes depending on traffic.
Overall, LQSA offers professional service and friendly staff but requires attention to slot procedures and approach planning due to its terrain and operational environment.
