What other pilots say about LKCS

Unfortunately, the hours of operation are still not particularly good. Avgas supply is somewhat unreliable (see, for example, the current NOTAM; this is not the first time). Landing fees are inexpensive; parking fees remain too high. Personally, I didn’t find the city of Budweis particularly attractive or worth seeing (apart from the main square). I thought Krumau was great, even though it’s of course very touristy. You can either go by bus from Budweis, or take Bolt directly from the airfield to get there.

I landed here for the first time in August 2025 and was impressed by the professionalism of everyone involved. Prior to arrival, email communication with handling was excellent—they responded immediately and asked me to specify a few details. The airport has everything you need; the handling car is already waiting after vacating and takes you to the terminal. With Bolt it’s 8 EUR into town, which is quite nice, and a visit to the Budweiser brewery is absolutely worth it. I stayed overnight and indulged in Bohemian food and beer, which are significantly cheaper than at home.

LKCS (České Budějovice) offers a long, well-maintained hard runway and modern infrastructure, with both VFR and IFR operations available. IFR flights are generally possible between 0700–1500 UTC, but repeated IFR training approaches are not permitted. Customs is available with 24-hour prior notice required; for arrivals from Switzerland, a customs form must be completed in advance. For flights from Germany, Austria, and Poland, neither customs nor flight plan is required. ATC and ground staff communicate in good English and are described as professional and friendly.

Landing fees for typical GA aircraft since 2022 range from about €20 to €30, with parking fees around €40 per day for longer stays. Example: landing fee about €30; parking about €40 per day. Shorter stops may be less expensive, but extended parking can become costly. Payment is possible by credit card or cash (Euros accepted). Fuel (Avgas and Jet A1) is available by bowser; Avgas should ideally be pre-ordered but is often available without prior notice.

The terminal is recently renovated, offering facilities for flight planning, printing documents, and a fridge with refreshments; there is no on-field restaurant. Taxis to the city center cost about €10–€15 and can be arranged by radio or at the terminal; travel time is typically 10–15 minutes. Bus connections to Český Krumlov (UNESCO site) take about 30 minutes from the city bus terminal. Hangar space may be available on request.

Security for parked aircraft has been questioned after theft of chocks despite claimed surveillance; access to the GA terminal may be restricted to local pilots. The airport staff are generally described as helpful and attentive, though isolated incidents of indifference have occurred.

LKCS provides efficient service, modern facilities, and convenient access to České Budějovice and surrounding attractions but longer stays may incur higher parking costs and security vigilance is advised.
