Pilot Comments for LFMT
Philipp
Outside the summer season there is generally NO PPR for parking. Check the NOTAMs. There is also no prior notice required for international flights. As a result, LFMT is still, for the most part, a dream of an airport.
On our arrival it was busy, and we offered to use the shorter runway, which was gratefully accepted.
The Avgas 100LL pump has not been directly at Apron F for a few years; it is just behind it on Taxiway L3. This TOTAL pump can now also be used with a credit card. Current price 2,36€/l.
If you don’t want to restart unnecessarily after refueling before parking, you can hand‑tow the aircraft about 40 meters to the last positions on Apron F. F6 and F7 are the closest available positions when free. Coordinate this with Ground in advance, of course. Tie‑down points available.
From there it’s about 400 meters, wearing a hi‑vis vest, to the GAT, which is usually unstaffed; you simply walk through the two glass doors and you’re landside, only about 50 meters from the main terminal. UBER works very well; pickup is right there and it’s only about 20 Euro to the city center. Hotel Royal is excellent even though it is right next to the tram; by French standards a fairly extensive and good breakfast. Montpellier is always worth a visit; many nice winding corners, pubs, and restaurants, especially in the western part of the old town.
On departure there was again nobody at the GAT office. Through the first glass door you get in by calling on the intercom; then there is a security post on the right‑hand side. He also just let us through and did not ask for any data for landing fees. So we headed out. Approach entirely uneventful. I have now emailed the airport regarding the fees; let’s see when the invoice arrives. The fees are known to be minimal anyway.
Conclusion: outside the summer (when there is very often a fairly strictly enforced PPR) the best "airport" in France!

Friendly and hassle-free. Landing fee and 3 nights of parking for an SEP: EUR 30. Procedures are quick and straightforward. UPDATE 2026 Still everything perfect. In the meantime they require PPR due to limited parking availability; always granted promptly.

Pre-arranged tech stop on the way to the UK from Ibiza. All arranged via pce@montpellier.aeroport.fr Various reports state that fuel can only be paid via TOTAL card and various French cards. But I paid with Visa CREDIT (UK CARD) but best to check with total.aviationmontpellier@gmail.com before flight. A new one is to send GENDEC to BSE-FREJORGUES@DOUANE.FINANCES.GOUV.FR. The fee comes as a FORFAIT JOURNÉE ET JOUR SUPPLÉMENTAIRES/ DAYS PACKAGES and total 14.64 for landing using the VOR for RWY 31R (ILS was U/S). For return to aircraft after using the toilet ensure that you carry your passport and license for access to aircraft.

Montpellier LFMT is a GA-friendly international airport with both VFR and IFR procedures, including ILS and RNP approaches. GA parking requires prior notice, typically 72 hours PPR for parking, though shorter notice is sometimes accepted; always check NOTAMs and confirm via pce@montpellier.aeroport.fr. Parking space can be limited, especially on Apron F and E. No handling agent is required for non-commercial GA. English-speaking ATC is available 24 hours.
Landing and parking fees are low for the facilities provided. Example: landing and one night parking about €20; three nights parking about €30; two nights about €25; landing and overnight about €15. Payment is possible at the GAT or by invoice if unattended, with credit cards (Visa/MasterCard) widely accepted. Tie-down rings are present on Aprons E and F, but bring your own ropes.
Fuel (Avgas and Jet A-1) is available by fuel truck (request on arrival) or self-service with a Total card; credit card payment is generally accepted at both. Occasional short waits for the fuel truck may occur.
Access to the aircraft from the terminal requires showing your license and ID/passport. The GA terminal (GAT) is within walking distance from parking stands, though distances can be up to several hundred meters. Taxis and Uber are readily available at the GAT exit; fares to the city center range from about €20–€30 each way. A shuttle bus (Line 620) runs every 30 minutes to the city for around €2–€3, with tram connections available nearby. Major rental car companies (Hertz, Sixt, Europcar) have offices close to the GAT.
Customs and immigration are available without advance notice for most flights, but sending a GENDEC to BSE-FREJORGUES@DOUANE.FINANCES.GOUV.FR may be required—check current requirements before arrival.
Facilities include a dedicated GA terminal with basic amenities; hotels are nearby (some within walking distance or offering shuttle service). The airport offers tie-downs, friendly staff, efficient security checks (license/ID required), and minimal bureaucracy. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM for operational details.
LFMT offers easy access, low fees, reliable fuel service, efficient ground transport options, and a welcoming environment for non-commercial general aviation flights.
