Like my predecessor, I also had a very quick and efficient fuel stop in Bastia. As per the AIP, PPR must be requested in advance for all GA traffic, but it was quickly approved online via touchngo.fr by SATAB.
Very friendly and cooperative ATC, both Approach and Tower. A handling agent was already waiting for us at the fuel station. The friendly gentleman assisted with refueling and processed the landing fees of 26,10€, comprising 14,10€ landing charges (Rockwell Commander 114B) and a 12,00€ PPR fee.
Avgas 100LL currently 2,83€ per liter, paid with an AirBP card. After exactly 32 min on the ground we were airborne again and Tower even let us choose the takeoff direction. Excellent—would gladly return!

Only drawback: no toilet on the fueling apron—use the flying club on the adjacent apron.

LFKB (Bastia Poretta) is generally GA-friendly and offers both VFR and IFR procedures, including ILS, VOR, and NDB approaches. Handling is mandatory for all GA flights and must be requested via the MyHandling portal or touchngo.fr; direct email requests are often ignored or delayed. PPR is required for parking, especially in summer due to limited GA parking space, and confirmation may only be given close to arrival. On arrival and departure, all movement between terminal and aircraft is by shuttle—pedestrian access to the ramp is not permitted. Security checks are conducted through the main airline terminal, sometimes causing delays, especially during busy periods or when handlers are occupied with commercial traffic.
Fees for landing, parking, and handling are moderate for a regional airport but can add up. For short stays (1 night), total charges typically range from about €70 to €80; for longer stays (3–7 nights), combined fees (landing, parking, handling) have ranged from about €70 up to €220 depending on duration and services. Example: landing about €20–€70, handling about €35–€40, parking per night about €8–€10. Additional stopover or passenger fees may apply. Payment is usually made directly to the handler or shuttle driver by credit card.
AVGAS and Jet A1 are available on the GA apron via BP self-service pump; a BP card is required for self-service. Without a BP card, expect significant waiting times as the fuel attendant prioritizes airline traffic; payment by credit card is possible only when attended. Fuel stops are sometimes free of charge but not always—clarify in advance.
Car rental desks are located in the main terminal with several agencies available; rental cars can be arranged on arrival or in advance. Taxis to Bastia city center cost around €50; an hourly public bus offers a cheaper alternative. Hotels are available nearby within a short drive.
ATC is described as friendly and efficient with clear instructions in English. The airport can become busy with commercial traffic, leading to unpredictable waiting times for handling or fuel services. All passengers require photo ID for security checks; allow extra time for these procedures.
For customs/immigration when departing France or Schengen, check out at the police station in the terminal as required by official procedures.
