Pilot Comments for LFKA

Everything still as Philipp described. The C office was also closed during our visit, so we paid the landing fees for a DR401—9.23€—via Aerops. For refuelling with JET A1, staff must be on site. The restaurant "Piper Cub" is very good and it’s worth reserving a lunch table in advance. Even on the first weekend in March the outdoor terrace was already quite full, but there was little air traffic. You can walk all the way around the aerodrome on a nice hike; otherwise, apart from a go‑kart track on the field, there isn’t much to do. There is no public transport nearby either, so you’ll definitely need a taxi for excursions in the area. Right next to the airfield is an "Aire de grand passage" (AGP), where between 1 April and 30 September up to 100 caravans of travellers can be accommodated.
Restaurant: 5 stars; the aerodrome itself is a bit run‑down, and above 1.2 t the landing fees get expensive at over 40€ (for whatever reason), so unfortunately the overall result is only 3 stars.

It’s worth reading the VAC carefully. You only need authorization from any Flight Instructor (FI) to land here; no local checkout is required. Holding any instructor rating also suffices. The approach is not particularly difficult. Runway 23 is the preferred runway. Fuel by TOTAL. Park along the taxiway, i.e., opposite the fuel station. There is a "Bureau de Piste" (see yellow C) where you can normally pay the landing fee, but it is often unstaffed. You can also pay via Aerops, though it doesn’t always calculate the correct amount. Landing fee is moderate up to 1.2 tonnes; above that, expensive. Surcharge for landings between 1200 and 1400. Restaurant "Piper Pub" on the field; closed on Sundays.

Landing at LFKA requires either a Mountain Rating, an instructor's written authorization in the logbook for Albertville, or an Instructor Rating. Motorized ultralight aircraft and helicopters are also permitted. Payment for landing and parking is handled at the aeroclub office; contact: +33 479 384 803. Example: landing fee about €10. Payment is possible on site or via Total card at the fuel pump, with credit card accepted by arrangement.
A well-regarded restaurant is located on the field, offering mountain views. There is a shaded seating area with tables and chairs. The apron can become crowded around midday, and access to the taxiway may be blocked if parked at the back; in such cases, exit may require using the runway directly from the apron. The field is situated in a broad valley, and a small town with a supermarket is about five minutes away on foot.
Taxi only on designated taxiways. The radio is monitored but typically not used for instructions by the flight service officer. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
