Pilot Comments for LFGY
Gunter
The AD is beautifully situated in the Vosges mountains and this location for sure makes it worth a visit. There are no fees but donations are welcome. Radio communication is aircraft to aircraft and French only. According to the AIP there is Avgas by Carte Total, but we didn't refuel. St. Dié can be reached on foot but it's a stretch, otherwise a bus stop is close to the field. The town has a rich history but is actually a bit underwhelming. It was destroyed completely in WW II and rebuilt in the fifties.
AirfieldBot
LFGY is surrounded by hills and mountains in all directions, with the asphalt runway 07 slightly rising and leading directly into higher terrain. The airfield operates with auto-information, using a shared frequency (123.5), and French is predominantly used on the radio, though English is possible. Only VFR operations are available. Approaches can be challenging under certain wind and weather conditions, especially for less powerful aircraft, and the field may be busy at times.
There are no landing fees. Example: landing fee about €0. Avgas is available with an [AIRCRAFT] card; payment methods may vary, but card payment is generally required. Parking is on stabilized grass. Facilities include a club house with drink and coffee vending machines, but there is no restaurant; visitors often bring their own food.
The airfield offers a friendly atmosphere and is well-suited for scenic stops in the Vosges region. The walk to town is relatively long. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
