What other pilots say about LFDP
On arrival, checked out with Nates and made blind position reports. Runway is in relatively good condition. Parking is on grass, equipped with chains for tie-down. There is usually someone at the club—the airfield manager also has reasonably priced wines. Sign the book in the clubhouse and drop a donation in the tin box. No landing or parking fee is charged. Avgas available, but I didn’t need any. Arrange a taxi in advance or arrange loaner bicycles with the club. On arrival Monday, none of the four taxi companies (numbers posted at the field) could be reached... The island is easy to explore by bike. Departure also straightforward; coordinate with Nantes regarding the possibility to transit the restricted areas, otherwise
LFDP has a well-maintained 1000 m grass runway, generally in good condition with some bumps and hard surfaces during dry periods. Circuit procedures must be followed precisely, especially due to proximity to towns; see AIP/NOTAM for details. There is no landing or parking fee, but a voluntary donation to the aeroclub is customary.
Parking is on grass with tie-down chains available; bringing your own tie-downs is recommended due to frequent strong winds. Avgas (100LL) is available, typically via Total card or with club assistance for credit card payment; 98SP is also available, but payment may be limited to cash or French cheque. The aeroclub usually has someone present and offers drinks; local wine can be purchased from the club steward.
Bicycles can be rented through the club, making it easy to explore the island. Taxis should be arranged in advance, as availability can be unreliable; taxi numbers are posted at the airfield. Europcar rental cars can be delivered to the field with key pickup at the aeroclub. Beaches and local attractions are accessible by bike or car.
Caution is advised for pebbles at the end of taxiway 28 and on short asphalt sections. The airfield operates without formal flight service; communication is air-to-air in French. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with helpful staff and a sociable club environment.
