Pilot Comments for LESB
Philipp
Warning: In January 2026 the airspace structure over the entire island, and especially in the LESB area, changed significantly. In particular, arrivals from and departures to the northeast (POS, Alcudia) are now enclosed within the LEPA control zone (CTR). A kind of “corridor” has been established, but the procedures as they stand are dangerous, unclear, and poorly resolved in detail. AENA is aware of this and there are renewed discussions with GA organizations to improve it again in the future. In the meantime I can only recommend generally conducting arrivals and departures to/from the north, i.e. via Port de Soller or Valdemossa; provided there is no low cloud, that is the most relaxed option. Whether other local pilots on the field make their calls in English depends on the individual case; you cannot fully rely on it. The entire apron (approx. 40 parking stands) is available for free use; just pick an open stand. Proceed wearing a high‑visibility vest to the reception office, which is located between two large hangars. The bureaucracy is, as always, quite substantial; but if the aircraft has been there before, it works out. In any case, the Securidad Civil always want to see IDs. UBER works wonderfully; we were, however, picked up privately. boschrentacar could not provide us with a car at short notice; so we went to LEPA airport. There you have the classic corporate providers (SIXT, etc.) directly at the airport (opposite the terminal). Other providers are in some cases 1–2 kilometers away. They are also not set up for completely walk‑up rentals; so you should always book at least 3 hours in advance. On departure we did the return from LEPA to LESB by UBER (16€). At the field the Securidad Civil then wanted to see the aircraft registration and insurance; that only took a minute. The lady at the landing fees office was new and could not calculate the fees; so I cannot say anything about that yet. The toilet at the field is accessed from the airside. At least with the new airspace structure there are no longer any TMA lower limits referenced to AGL, which has made things clearer and better.

The aerodrome for Mallorca. Review the airspace carefully. The two aerodromes are very close to each other. Do not forget to close the flight plan with Mallorca Ops. Very friendly staff on site. Getting a taxi from the aerodrome can be difficult depending on the season and time of day. A rental car can be delivered to the aerodrome. boschrentacar.com Fuel prices are steep.

We were there in August 2025 with a P28T, MTOW 1247kg. Parking from June–August cannot be reserved, but according to the aerodrome there is always availability. Tip: During that period, parking per day is more expensive than off-season, but at the beginning of any month you can pay for a full month of parking (ca. 150€), which is significantly cheaper.
Upon checking in at the aerodrome you receive comprehensive information regarding airspace, arrival/departure procedures, and frequencies. The flight plan must be opened and closed via "Mallorca Operations". There is an aerodrome frequency for the traffic pattern and the vicinity, and an additional air-to-air frequency for the island of Mallorca itself. With a bit of preparation it is straightforward and logical, and the local pilots make excellent use of it.
We did not refuel. There is a maintenance facility on the field.
Clearance to enter Class A airspace was also possible on the northbound return flight.

Son Bonet (LESB) is a non-towered, VFR-only airfield with no handling or PPR required; all flights require a flight plan, including local flights, and Y/Z plans are mandatory for IFR arrivals or departures. Communication is via Son Bonet Radio (122.705 or 123.50), with blind position reports; after landing, contact Palma Operations (130.205/130.25) to close the flight plan. The airfield operates from 08:15 to 18:45 local time, with access to aircraft possible from around 07:00 for preflight preparation, but departures only after official opening. Maximum altitude over the island is 1000 ft AGL due to controlled airspace above; expect turbulence near the northwest mountain range and possible strong winds.
Landing fees are generally low, but parking fees are significantly higher in July and August—examples include about €45 for landing and two days parking, about €50 per day for parking in peak summer months, and about €160 for landing plus seven days parking outside peak season. Example: landing and four days parking about €130. A monthly parking bonus is available if arranged at the start of the month. Payment is made in a small OPS building between hangars; credit cards and cash accepted.
Fuel (Avgas/Jet A1) is available but only during published hours (typically 10:00–14:00 and 17:00–19:00), with a siesta break between 14:00–16:00 when no fuel service is provided. Having a BP card can simplify fuel payment; a tax number may be required for fueling. No trolleys are available—luggage must be carried by hand.
Facilities include tie-down rings on stands (bring your own ropes), chocks and ropes sometimes provided on request, toilets (quality varies), a cantina with lunch service on site, and occasional Wi-Fi in the OPS container. Maintenance support is available from Guillermo (+34 671 660 930). The apron may have loose stones; caution is advised when taxiing or parking.
Ground transport options include taxis (about €20–30 to Palma or the main airport), car hire delivery by arrangement with local firms such as Roig or SIXT, and a train station within 7–10 minutes' walk providing quick access to Palma or Inca. Advance taxi booking is recommended due to occasional availability issues.
Security checks of aircraft documents and personal IDs by Guardia Civil are routine on arrival and departure; wearing high-visibility vests on the apron is mandatory. No customs services are available—international arrivals must be from Schengen airports only.
Overall, Son Bonet offers straightforward GA operations with friendly staff, efficient email communication for pre-arrival information, and quick responses regarding parking availability. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM for operational details.
