Salamanca/Matacán Airport (LESA)

VFR is permitted only on weekends within limited hours; during weekdays, operations are restricted to IFR. PPR is required outside published hours, with a 72-hour advance request needed for customs and out-of-hours operations. The airport is joint civilian-military, leading to significant operational constraints for general aviation, especially due to military activity. The terminal is large but largely unused, with minimal traffic.

Handling is mandatory in some cases and can be costly, with an example of handling about €300 for minimal service. Other fees are described as moderate, with one example about €30. Refuelling incurs a substantial fixed service charge, resulting in high fuel costs. Avgas and Jet A1 are available, but arranging avgas may require persistence due to language barriers and limited staff familiarity.

Ground transport options include a bus to Salamanca city and taxis, with the bus costing around €5 per person and taxis about €20 to the city center. English proficiency among staff is limited; communication may require patience or assistance from local flying schools.

Customs is available with 72-hour notice by email. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM. The airport serves as the main option for Salamanca despite operational challenges.
