What other pilots say about EVRS
Our PPR via email was answered promptly, but mainly with the note to familiarize yourself with the special procedures. These are described in detail in the AIP, including maximum altitudes and radio procedures. Position reports were also made in English by local pilots. Departure via the north transit route with a Z-Plan also completely trouble-free.
The runway is OK in the area of threshold 32 and a bit beyond; toward the middle it gets rather poor. The taxiways are now very poor — taxi very slowly and watch for potholes...
On the apron (!), be prepared for trikes that take off, land, and maneuver low-level more or less cross-country.
Bus line 3 departs around the corner and goes directly to the city center (ticket from the driver 2 EUR).
Thanks to its Russian charm, Spilve remains a highlight and is also very well connected transport-wise — however, due to the dilapidated runway, to be enjoyed with some caution. Riga is worth seeing!
Currently no AVGAS (no NOTAM, but noted on spilve.org).
Fees for 1.4 t (cash only): Landing 20 EUR Parking 5 EUR/day
Spilve (EVRS) requires PPR for every arrival and departure, with a unique code issued for each and mandatory inclusion in flight plan remarks; requests are made via www.spilve.org or info@spilve.org, typically answered within 12 hours. The airfield lies within Riga CTR, with strict altitude limits and specific routing; procedures must be studied in advance as circuit entry is non-standard, downwind is used only for touch-and-go or go-arounds, and each movement needs its own PPR number. Squawk 2000 is required on approach, and all procedures are detailed on spilve.org and in the AIP/NOTAM.
The runway is generally in usable condition, but taxiways and parking areas are rough, with broken concrete, sharp edges, potholes, and hidden tie-downs; taxi slowly and exercise caution. Numerous microlights may operate from taxiways or cross the apron at low level. Wearing a yellow vest when moving on the apron is advised. A Part 145 maintenance shop is present onsite.
Avgas is available only by prior arrangement through the local aeroclub or flying school, paid in cash without receipt; supply can be inconsistent. Example: landing fee about €20; parking outside about €5 per night; hangar about €15 per night when available. All payments are cash only.
The airport is 2–15 minutes by car from Riga city center; Bolt/Uber rides typically cost under €15. Bus line 3 stops nearby with tickets around €2–3. Hotels such as Radisson Blue Elizabete are recommended in town.
Spilve offers a basic terminal (sometimes described as dilapidated), limited infrastructure, and simple handling but is valued for its proximity to Riga and low costs. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
