Structurally quite an ugly but very useful airport in the southeast of Ireland (Cork EICK has become expensive; Kilkenny EIKK has been barely usable for non-based operators for years). Pay close attention to operating hours. PPR by email to operations@waterfordairport.net. They will confirm, but may not advise that for international flights Customs (although always on the field) expects a GAR to be sent in advance to cmadde01@revenue.ie. IFR: only ILS, no RNP. No radar vectors. Everything easy and friendly. 100LL no problem. The terminal is as ugly inside as out; there are no longer scheduled or charter services on the field, everything feels rather dormant. A taxi (called by the OPS staff; no UBER) into Waterford costs about €20. Note: Waterford itself is really not much to look at. Only the golf course east of the city on an island in the River Suir is noteworthy. Otherwise, there’s a nice bathing cove at Dunmore East about 10 km from the city.
However, from the quay in the middle of Waterford (opposite the main bus station) there are buses every few hours to Kilkenny, 40 minutes for €7 (and they also continue to Cork and Dublin). See www.dublincoach.ie/all-timetables/m9-express-service. Works really well. Kilkenny is much prettier than Waterford, though quite touristy. Hotel prices are relatively high.
Charges at Waterford: landing up to 1.5 tonnes €15; above that currently €50! They are aware the jump is too big and kindly charged me €15 even though I’m 1.6 tonnes. The price list is expected to be adjusted soon. 100LL costs €2.60 for departures from Ireland (no VAT), otherwise about €3.

Straightforward stop for UK entry/exit and Avgas refueling. PPR for this via email to operations@waterfordairport.net. Quick refuel and then briefly into the terminal to pay by card at the information desk. Apart from some aero club flying, the field feels deserted. Rental car counter available, but only staffed by prior arrangement with the branch in town.
€15 landing fee for an AA5 and duty-free €2.05/l for Avgas since we were departing to the UK.

Waterford Airport operates primarily for general aviation and flight training, with no scheduled commercial or charter services. Runway and taxiways are in excellent condition. Avgas 100LL is readily available. Parking is generally uncomplicated but should be requested in advance due to limited space, especially for overnight stays. Landing fees for aircraft up to 1.5 tonnes are typically about €15; above this weight, fees may be around €50, though adjustments and discretion have been applied. Example: landing fee about €15.
Car hire desks are not permanently staffed; prior arrangement with city branches is needed. Taxis can be summoned via app or phone, with a typical fare to Waterford city about €20. The city itself is several kilometers from the airport and considered less attractive than nearby destinations such as Kilkenny, which can be reached by bus from the quay in Waterford in about 40 minutes for €7.
Facilities at the terminal are basic, limited to tea-making equipment and snacks; there is no restaurant or café on site. Flight planning can be done at a PC in the terminal’s first floor. Payment for landing fees is made at the information desk inside the terminal.
Customs and immigration procedures are generally relaxed but require advance notification via GAR for international arrivals or departures. Procedures may vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
