Pilot Comments for EHRD

Due to severe weather in Luxembourg and Cologne, we rearranged 24 hours before clearing Schengen at Rotterdam and then made a further fuel stop in Germany before the final sector to NUE. We emailed details as per the club website. As stated in the AIP of the Netherlands, confirmed handling is mandatory for all General Aviation traffic arriving at Rotterdam The Hague Airport, for security reasons. Filed IFR, no slot required and posted a GENDEC which was checked on arrival by Dutch Customs/Police.
It's not cheap, but it's a reasonable and decent IFR tech stop en route into Europe. The only downside is to give 90 minutes to clear customs/Schengen then taxi to Ramp F where you must contact JetAviation for JetA1. https://www.jetaviation.com/location/rotterdam-the-hague-netherlands/

Very easy to book mandatory handling through Vliegclub Rotterdam at https://www.vliegclubrotterdam.nl/handling. Any parking over 6 hours is charged, landing + handling for an SR22T of 1540 kg is c. EUR 75 (no passenger fees), parking is EUR 22 per day as of Dec 2025. For non Schengen flights, they will arrange for Customs to meet you at the Vliegclub, both inbound and outbound, very easy process but do make sure you have a (digital) copy of your GenDec (UK GAR) with you as they'll ask for it. Note that you'll get a Eurocontrol bill of c. EUR 22 sent to your address as well.
ATC is friendly and helpful, I've often managed to slot in practice instrument approaches and holdings for training. The VFR procedures are easy to adhere to with SkyDemon or other EFBs, but have a good look at the 3 different entry/exit routes and altitudes.
There's a few bus lines going to Rotterdam Central, bus 33 is one of them, 30 mins in centre of R'dam. Love this airport - great stop over for rest of Europe as well.

Rotterdam The Hague Airport (EHRD) requires confirmed handling for all general aviation flights, with the Vliegclub Rotterdam providing handling for non-commercial flights under 2000 kg and up to 13 meters wingspan. Handling is mandatory and must be arranged in advance, typically via the club’s online form. IFR and VFR arrivals are both supported, with professional ATC and efficient procedures; no slot is required for IFR. The aeroclub offers a welcoming atmosphere with a clubhouse and bar, and provides clear briefing materials. Handling through the club is available between 09:00 and 18:00 local time; outside these hours, costs increase significantly.
Fees for landing, handling, and parking (less than 24 hours) are typically in the €60–€130 range for non-commercial GA using the aeroclub. Example: landing, handling, and parking about €100. Fees are paid at the club desk by credit or debit card; prices include Dutch VAT at 21%. For longer stays, parking is charged per 24-hour period. Handling via Jet Aviation or KLM JetCenter is significantly more expensive.
Avgas (100LL) is available self-service at Golf apron using an AirBP card; JetA1 fueling can be slow due to business jet priority and may require patience. Payment issues or delays may occur with Jet Aviation for JetA1. Aircraft may need to be repositioned after parking due to apron management requirements.
Customs/immigration clearance requires submitting a GENDEC via gendec.eu before arrival; customs/police may take time to arrive but generally process efficiently. For extra-Schengen flights, allow additional time for clearance.
Ground transport options include taxis (about €20–€30 into town), Uber pickup from the main terminal (10 minutes’ walk from the aeroclub), frequent bus service (bus 33 runs every 10 minutes; about 20 minutes to central Rotterdam; ticket €5), and car rental at the main terminal. Cycling routes connect directly to Delft (about 30 minutes). Several hotels are located at or near the airport.
The airport can be busy with both airliners and GA traffic but remains well organized and professional. Circuit procedures may require holding or extended downwind if commercial traffic is present; controllers are accommodating but expect possible delays during peak times. For VFR arrivals, follow published procedures closely as deviations have led to near misses in busy periods.
Facilities include a friendly clubhouse with bar at the aeroclub, WiFi access, and briefing materials. High-visibility vests are mandatory on the apron. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM for operational details.
Overall, EHRD offers efficient access for non-commercial GA under 2t MTOW when handled by the aeroclub, though costs are higher than typical small airfields in the region.
