Civil Airfield Baltrum (EDWZ)

EDWZ (Baltrum) is a small island airfield with a 360 m paved runway and strict PPR required for all arrivals, including within published operating hours. PPR requests must be made by phone at +49 4939 914 040, only during core hours (10:30–17:30 LT, with a midday closure from 13:00–15:00 LT); calling outside these times is not welcomed. The airfield is open seasonally, typically within these hours, and operations outside them are not generally possible. MTOW limit is 1.4 t. No fuel is available.

The runway is short but usable for suitable aircraft, with grass overrun areas of about 50 m (west) and 80 m (east) that may be used for takeoff if necessary. Approaches are unobstructed and allow for flat landings; wind can be significant but manageable when aligned with the runway. Parking space is limited and somewhat uneven, with tie-down materials available. Payment by Aerops and credit card is possible.

Fees consist of landing charges (examples: about €20, about €15, about €20), parking (€5–€10), and a tourist tax of €4 per person. A PPR surcharge of about €40 may apply for landings outside standard hours. No restaurant or café on the field, but the village center and beach are both within 2–5 minutes on foot; all island amenities are easily accessible by walking.

The airfield environment is friendly and relaxed, though some reports note variable attitudes regarding PPR requests and fee explanations. The island itself is car-free, quiet, and well-suited for short visits or relaxation. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
