AirfieldBot
EDWC offers both asphalt and grass runways, with a 700 m asphalt strip and a 350 m grass strip for ultralights. The airfield is suitable for VFR operations and is commonly used as a stop for refueling or food en route to the North Sea. Both Jet A-1 and Super Plus unleaded fuel are available, with payment options including Aerops. The field is generally easy to operate from, though the surrounding moorland can make visual identification challenging in poor visibility, and wind farms in the area are not always helpful as landmarks. On short final to runway 28, turbulence may occur due to nearby trees. There is a notable Transall aircraft on display near the hangars.
The on-field restaurant is highly regarded for its large selection of cakes, including lactose-free options, and offers views of the runway from the terrace. Other menu items such as currywurst are available at reasonable prices, though some feedback notes average quality and variable friendliness of service. Overnight accommodation is available directly at the airfield, including block cabins and camping facilities adjacent to the field. Hangar space for overnight aircraft parking is possible.
A maintenance facility (TL Ultralight Werkstatt/Flugzeugreparatur Damme) operates on site; contact: +49-5491-1404. There is also a flight school, helicopter service, parachuting activity, and a pilot shop with limited offerings. The briefing room near the fuel farm provides internet access, weather briefing tools, and printing facilities.
Landegebühren are generally described as fair or moderate. Example: landing fee about €10–20. Discounts may apply for higher fuel purchases or training flights; payment by Aerops is accepted.
Bicycle rental is available for about €5 per day. The airfield’s location allows for cycling tours around the Dümmer See; plan 4–5 hours round trip.
Some reports note inconsistent friendliness from staff and occasional disputes over parking fees during maintenance stays; procedures vary—see AIP/NOTAM. When taxiing near the restaurant or fuel station, watch for drainage channels on the apron.
Overall, EDWC provides good infrastructure for general aviation pilots seeking refueling, food stops, maintenance support, or overnight stays in a relaxed environment.
