Pilot Comments for EDRZ
Javed
Flew in on 23rd April from Thruxton on the way to Friedricschafen. Sent them an email a couple of days before the trip and they confirmed within a couple of hours.
On final approach I was asked to maintain best forward speed and expedite vacating the runway as there were 6 tornados waiting to take off. After landing I realised there was some kind of event going on with a few stalls at the airfield and the tornados doing multiple low passes. Amazing.
I picked up fuel at EUR 2.20. German border force came out to the aircraft and after a phone call to find out what to do, they stamped my passport. No photo / fingerprint as per the new EES.
On departure I was charged a EUR 20.48 landing fee but also, EUR 39.38 each for customs and immigration which was a first for me. Anyone experienced this before? I asked about this and they said that it is something the airfield needs to pay to the border force.
+19% tax on everything above.
It was very easy to get in and out of the airport. I needed some space for a meeting for about an hour and they gave me a dedicated meeting room which was great. About a 30 minute walk to a large retail factory outlet so plenty of food and shopping options.

EDRZ operates with PPR, which is generally straightforward to obtain by phone or email, sometimes required at least 90 minutes before arrival. The airfield has a large runway and very little traffic, offering both VFR and IFR operations; however, procedures may vary and pilots should consult the AIP/NOTAM for current approach availability. After landing, a Follow-Me vehicle typically guides aircraft to parking, and ramp agents are described as friendly and helpful. Payment for landing fees is usually possible by EC card or credit card, though occasional technical issues may occur; AEROPS is not supported.
Landing fees for non-commercial GA are in the medium range. Example: landing fee about €20. Facilities include a briefing room and toilets; no on-field restaurant or café is currently available. Fuel is available and sometimes competitively priced. Hangar parking with heating has been offered, and overnight parking is possible.
A complimentary shuttle service to the nearby Designer Outlet (about 15–20 minutes on foot) is regularly provided without advance request; staff may also offer rides to other local destinations such as the Rosengarten or nearby restaurants. Walking to the outlet is feasible if preferred.
No customs or immigration services are available at EDRZ; international flights requiring these must use another airport. Caution is advised during parachute operations, which can affect runway availability. The airfield staff consistently provide attentive service and support for general aviation visitors.
