Civil Airfield Bad Neuenahr Ahrweiler (EDRA)

EDRA is a scenic, well-maintained airfield situated on a hill above Bad Neuenahr, offering panoramic views of the Ahr valley and vineyards. The asphalt runway is 500 meters long, with an additional 200–300 meters of narrow paved or grass safety strip at the western end, which can be used for extra margin during takeoff and landing. The circuit is somewhat tight and offset due to local noise abatement requirements. Approaches to runway 28 may be challenging for some pilots because of topography and high-voltage power lines; see AIP/NOTAM for details.

Operations require PPR on weekdays, while weekends are generally open but still lack fixed hours; a phone call is recommended before arrival. The airfield is club-operated with friendly staff and pilots. Parking is on grass. The adjacent shooting range can detract from the otherwise tranquil atmosphere.

A large garden restaurant with attractive views and pleasant indoor seating operates on the field, serving both cold and warm meals. Walking to Bad Neuenahr takes about 15–20 minutes downhill through vineyards; Ahrweiler is a further 3 kilometers away, accessible by taxi (about €20). Public transport options are available from town.

Landing fees are moderate. Example: landing fee about €10. Payment is cash only at the airfield.

The airfield is suitable for non-commercial general aviation operations with proper preparation due to the short runway and circuit constraints.
