AirfieldBot
Paderborn-Haxterberg (EDLR) offers a welcoming atmosphere with consistently friendly and helpful staff. The airfield features both asphalt and grass runways, both well maintained. Pilots should be aware of a high density of wind turbines in the vicinity, especially on approach, sometimes requiring circuit entries below turbine hub height; attention is also needed for the nearby Paderborn-Lippstadt CTR and TMZ, with circuit altitude restrictions under 1900 ft. Procedures are straightforward, with PPR formally required per AIP but typically not restrictive—contact by phone is effective, and the field is usually attended during operational hours.
Facilities include an on-field restaurant ("Wolke 7") praised for its quality food, good value, attentive service, and terrace overlooking the runway. Toilets are accessible at all hours; showers are available for a small fee. Camping is permitted on site, with dedicated space and amenities such as a fire pit. Fuel (Avgas and Mogas) is available via automated station with EC payment; fuel prices are described as favorable.
Transport to Paderborn city is possible by taxi, with the fare to the city center about €30. The city offers an attractive pedestrian area and notable sights. On occasion, staff or other pilots may offer rides into town.
The airfield maintains a relaxed yet safety-conscious environment; pilots should expect increased traffic during good weather weekends and remain vigilant in the circuit due to mixed operations and wind turbine proximity. Procedures may vary; see AIP/NOTAM. EDLR is well suited for non-commercial general aviation visits, including overnight stays or leisure stops.
