Pilot Comments for EDHG
D.
Great airfield very close to the lovely small town of Lüneburg.
PPR is mandatory due to a daily quota. In poor weather, when the tower is not staffed, obtaining PPR is a bit cumbersome. After many calls—to voicemail, the restaurant operator, a board member on his car phone—we eventually reached the Flugleiter (airfield duty officer). Everyone we called, and everyone on site, was very friendly and did their best to make the landing possible. The Flugleiter even came out to the field especially for us—many thanks for that!
The recently graded runway with grass-grid pavers is a dream, and a grass runway with a centerline is something special as well. Fuel pumps with MOGAS, AVGAS, and Diesel are available.
Walking into town takes about 30 minutes and isn’t recommended due to a busy road. Bicycles can be borrowed at the airfield; we didn’t try that. Taxi from the train station to the airfield is just under 10 euros.

EDHG operates with PPR, required due to daily movement limits; on weekends, staff are generally present, but direct phone confirmation is advisable as email responses may be inconsistent. The grass runway is well maintained, with plastic grid reinforcement and a marked centerline. Circuit and approach are straightforward; avoid overflying the city, especially when departing runway 25, and turn left early.
A city-imposed surcharge of €20 applies to visiting aircraft in addition to the landing fee. Example: landing and city surcharge about €30. Overnight parking may incur additional charges. Bicycles are available for rent at about €5 each, providing a 5–15 minute ride into Lüneburg’s center. Taxis to the city cost around €10–12. Tie-downs with anchor points are present, and hangar space may be available on request. Fuel options include Avgas and Super+.
The airfield is noted for friendly staff who assist with logistics such as accommodation and transport contacts. A beer garden or café operates on site. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM for operational details.
