EDGS offers professional, friendly service with efficient radio communication and ground handling. Both VFR and IFR operations are possible, but IFR arrivals—especially on weekends—require PPR and may be restricted or canceled due to parachute activity at nearby Breitscheid; pilots are advised to call the same day to confirm IFR feasibility. The ILS approach is available for runway 31 only, with a noticeable upslope on the first half of this runway. The airfield is situated in a rural area, with some reports describing it as being in a bowl rather than on a hill.
The infrastructure is well-maintained, including long, wide runways and good pavement conditions. Facilities include avgas, mogas (including SuperPlus), and Jet A1 fuel, with payment accepted via Aerops app or credit card. Maintenance support is available, and ground staff provide assistance such as towing aircraft after refueling at no extra charge. Parking is directly in front of the tower; tie-downs and hangar space are available.
A well-regarded Italian restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating overlooks the apron; it can be crowded on Sundays and accepts only cash payments. Wifi is now available at the airport.
Landing fees are described as medium to high for Germany, with examples ranging from about €10 to €40 depending on weight and noise category; IFR surcharges apply. Example: landing fee about €40.
The airport staff consistently provide helpful support, including arranging hotel rooms or local transport when needed. Some turbulence may be experienced on final approach to runway 13 due to surrounding trees. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
