Pilot Comments for EDAD
Eckard
Landing fee + 1 overnight for 750 kg: €13.72. Parking on the grass area in front of the tower. Some parachute operations, otherwise rather quiet. On the ground floor there is a vending machine with drinks and snacks. About 25 minutes on foot to the Junkers-Museum (worth seeing), €8 admission. There are at least two bus lines on this street, running roughly hourly at different times. Taxi to the city center approx. €17–20. We stayed centrally at the BB-Hotel. Single room €55 + €13 breakfast on request. The hotel is relatively new. From there, both the Bauhaus-Museum and the market square can be reached on foot in a few minutes. There are various restaurants there. The museum is open 10:00–17:00, €10 admission.
AirfieldBot
EDAD offers straightforward access and friendly, helpful tower staff. The airfield is close to Dessau city, but there is no on-field restaurant or café, and public transport connections are limited; taxis to the city center cost about €20. The Junkers Museum is a key attraction, located 2 km or 25–30 minutes on foot from the airfield, with entry at €8. Bicycle rental is available at the airfield for around €10 per day, providing an alternative for reaching local sites. The Bauhaus Museum and city center hotels are within a short walk once in town.
Landing fees are low; Example: landing plus one overnight about €15. Card payment is possible, including via AeroPS. Hangar space can be arranged, and staff assist with hotel and taxi bookings when needed. Fuel (Mogas and Avgas) is available, with card payment preferred. Aircraft can be parked on grass in front of the tower or in hangars by arrangement.
Facilities include a vending machine with drinks and snacks in the terminal; no full meal service is available on site. The runway is long and wide, with generally uncomplicated approaches; some parachute activity may occur but does not dominate operations. The airfield is considered suitable for non-commercial general aviation visits focused on Dessau’s museums and architecture.
