The surrounding terrain is high, requiring higher airway minimum enroute altitudes (e.g., FL170–180 from the south), and descent may involve holding to lose altitude before starting the VOR29 approach at 6500 feet; oxygen may be needed and temperatures can be well below zero with potential for icing. Goreme National Park and the Kapadocya area, known for rock dwellings and balloon flights, are accessible and worth visiting.
