AirfieldBot
Idyllic airfield situated on a hill near the German and French borders, suitable for customs stops with advance notice required as per the website. The grass runway is well maintained, with runway 07 notably sloping upward at the start and a total usable landing distance of 460 meters. The airfield is PPR; after rainfall, it may be temporarily closed to visiting pilots, and information on the homepage may not always be current, so calling ahead is advisable. From the south, higher hills delay visual contact with the field; local wind conditions can differ from general forecasts, and current runway direction is provided by radio. Outside published hours, landings are allowed but departures are not; no operations on certain local holidays.
A modern Total fuel station offers 100LL and 91UL; card payment is accepted. Part of the apron is asphalted despite the grass runway. The restaurant has a terrace overlooking the field and operates Tuesday to Saturday 8:30–23:00, Sunday 8:30–21:00. Parking for guests is in front of the restaurant with nose facing north toward the runway; overnight outdoor parking is available.
Example: landing fee about CHF 20 up to 1100 kg. Example: customs clearance about CHF 10. Example: overnight outdoor parking about CHF 5.
The C-office provides quick and easy flight data entry at a PC terminal, with consistently friendly staff. Avoid overflying from the south due to glider activity above Tiersteinberg; announce vacating the runway by radio as not all of it is visible from departure points. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
