PPR is required for visiting aircraft, with application typically via an online form at least 24 hours in advance; PPR is generally granted automatically after submission. For non-based pilots, customs and fuel are not available. The airfield is situated in a narrow valley, with scenic approaches but some operational constraints: the road east of the runway must not be overflown below 5 meters, and the factory west of the runway not below 20 meters above ground. Departures should preferably use runway 10, even with light tailwind, and there is a general prohibition on departures between 12:00 and 13:30 local time. A maximum of three circuits is allowed for visitors. Parking is on grass behind the first building east of the taxiway perpendicular to the runway; surfaces can be uneven.
Landing fees are typically CHF 20, with a reduced rate of CHF 10 for training flights; overnight parking is CHF 5 per night. Example: landing fee about CHF 20. Fees are paid by leaving cash in an envelope on site or as instructed; staff presence varies and self-service is common.
There are no on-field facilities such as fuel or maintenance, but Raron town is nearby, accessible by foot (about 20 minutes) or by car. From Raron station, trains provide quick access to Visp, Brig, and Zermatt. Hospitality is frequently noted as friendly and helpful, with assistance sometimes offered for transport to local destinations.
Approaches can be demanding due to valley winds, especially when Föhn conditions prevail; turbulence and strong winds may occur in the area around Visp/Raron. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
