Civil Airfield Scharnstein (LOLC)

LOLC is a well-maintained grass airfield situated in a mountain valley at 1,760 ft MSL, with a 590 m runway. The airfield is popular with gliders, ultralights, and small powered aircraft. The right-hand circuit for runway 05 follows the mountain slopes and requires careful use of the full runway length and short-field procedures for both performance and noise abatement reasons. Visiting pilots should avoid overflying local villages on approach. There is frequent glider activity and a rescue helicopter is based on the field.

Mogas is available. A drinks vending machine is present, but there is no on-field restaurant; several dining options are within walking distance in the nearby village, which can be reached easily on foot or with help from local club members. The area offers attractive hiking opportunities directly from the airfield, including access to nearby mountain lakes.
