If you give them a call to ask for the mandatory PPR the reply is simply “We’ll be around”. No question about call sign or ETA asked. So yes, it’s a laid back place.
The main building is actually a sports complex with all sorts of facilities including a hostel. It was crowded when we were there in July 2026. We had dinner there but it wasn’t very good. However, everyone we dealt with was very friendly.
The AD is located in the northeastern corner of the Alps still surrounded by huge mountains. The runway could be a bit better, it’s quite bumpy. It’s 730m long but it’s obstacle free with ample grass areas at both ends. We paid 36€ for landing and one night parking.
Niederöblarn is a sleepy village as is neighboring Öblarn. It’s a sharp contrast to the touristy towns of Zell and St. Johann, both about half an hour away.
AirfieldBot
LOGO is a well-equipped airfield in a scenic alpine setting, offering both VFR and winter operations. The runway is 730 meters tarmac and generally well maintained, though parking on grass can be soft even in good weather. Fuel types available are JET A1, Avgas 100LL, and SuperPlus (Mogas), with payment by credit or debit card at the fuel station. Aircraft charter (including DA40, DR48, motorglider, and sailplanes) is available.
Facilities include a restaurant with a limited menu (toast, sausages, pizza), hotel rooms, fitness studio, sauna, tennis and squash courts, soccer fields, bike rental, and a flight school. A computer terminal for self-briefing is available in the hotel lobby. The train station is about 200 meters away and the bus stop about 400 meters from the airfield.
Noise restrictions prohibit takeoffs between 13:00 and 14:00 local time in summer; during this period landings are still permitted. There is a midday break for the flight director when no starts are allowed. The nearby military control zone Aigen (LOXA) may be active; check procedures and coordinate as needed. Approaches from the west to runway 22 can be challenging due to terrain and a high-voltage power line on final; visibility of runway 04 from the west is limited until late on approach.
