Niederöblarn Airport (LOGO)

Visited NÖ with three vintage aircraft in late August and found a perfect place for flying in the Eastern Alps: The approach is spectacular for flatlanders but relatively straightforward as long as the wind isn’t too strong. Plenty of grass before and beyond the asphalt runway if it ever gets tight. As always in the Alps, you need to know what’s workable for departure (Lee, W&B, Density, Climb Performance, Plan B). MOGAS and AVGAS available. The former high-performance sports center has been taken over by an investor and is happy to welcome and looks after guests. Overnight right on the field in simple, clean rooms, unfortunately without breakfast. Small café for the landing beer and light meals; no restaurant at the moment. With a restaurant or bicycles on the field it would be 5 points. Fees are moderate (about €20 for landing and overnight parking for 950kg). Many thanks, we’ll be back!

If you give them a call to ask for the mandatory PPR the reply is simply “We’ll be around”. No question about call sign or ETA asked. So yes, it’s a laid back place.
The main building is actually a sports complex with all sorts of facilities including a hostel. It was crowded when we were there in July 2026. We had dinner there but it wasn’t very good. However, everyone we dealt with was very friendly.
The AD is located in the northeastern corner of the Alps still surrounded by huge mountains. The runway could be a bit better, it’s quite bumpy. It’s 730m long but it’s obstacle free with ample grass areas at both ends. We paid 36€ for landing and one night parking.
Niederöblarn is a sleepy village as is neighboring Öblarn. It’s a sharp contrast to the touristy towns of Zell and St. Johann, both about half an hour away.
