What other pilots say about LMML
PPR and handling via Medavia with quick response. The airport is very large with long distances. Handling for a 4 t aircraft €200, €25 for PPR, €15 parking per day, and €11 airport fees. Some additional fees such as PAX transport and PAX fees had to be negotiated away (they keep trying). Jet fuel tax-free €0.95/l with a wait.
Handling is mandatory at LMML, with several agents available; Medavia is frequently described as professional, responsive, and helpful, while DC Aviation and Air Malta Ground Services are also used. Slots and PPR are compulsory and must be arranged in advance through a handling agent. Communication with handlers is generally quick, but some agents may be slow to respond or fail to secure required slots. Contact for Medavia: flightops@medavia.com.
Total fees for landing, handling, parking, and associated charges typically range from about €180 to €240 for a short stay. Example: total fees about €240. Additional charges such as PPR (€30), parking (€20–€90 for several nights), and landing (€40–€60) may apply; some agents attempt to add extra passenger or transport fees, which can sometimes be negotiated away.
Fueling is often slow and can involve significant waits (15 minutes up to several hours), especially for Avgas (100LL), which is supplied by ENEMED and not under handler control. Jet A1 is available at relatively low prices. Maintenance and hangarage are available via Falcon Aviation Engineering.
The airport is large with long taxi distances; expect extended ground movements and possible delays for transport between GA parking and the terminal (up to 45 minutes). Apron 3 is commonly used for GA parking, with tie-downs available; some aprons lack tie-downs. Transport between aircraft and terminal is provided by handlers, sometimes using large buses even for small groups.
VFR arrivals and departures are preferred from certain aprons due to traffic flow; IFR departures may require lengthy backtracking due to commercial traffic. Review the AIP carefully for VFR routing requirements—specific sector information must be included in flight plans as described in the AIP.
Facilities include restrooms of basic standard at some handlers; crew lounges are not always available. On-field maintenance, hangarage, refreshments, crew/briefing areas, and showers are offered by some FBOs on Apron 3.
Ground transport to Valletta or other destinations is straightforward; taxis or rideshare options cost about €10–€15 into the city center.
LMML is suitable for non-commercial general aviation but requires thorough pre-arrangement of handling, slots, and PPR. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
