R/T quality poor, both technical and phraseology. We both kept shaking our heads. PPR/handling is taken seriously with respect to apron parking. €75 for "No PPR" and only 1 h parking instead of a coffee at Waltherplatz. Landing fee for 1633 kg approx. €10.

PPR obtained very quickly. Request for a hangar spot (one week in winter) was somehow overlooked. Study the IFR approach carefully; the descent is steep. From the grass parking to the terminal it’s a fairly long walk, especially with skis and baggage.

PPR nowadays required if you need parking, but usually it is granted very quickly. Nice approach through the valley. Mogas and Avgas only available through the Aeroclub, Jet A1 through the airport. Nice restaurant at the airport.

We informed the airport beforehand and were told that parking on the grass (apron 300) is no problem.Also organized a rental car (rentalcars.com - Hertz), which worked fine.The approach from the north (IFR) was not as smoothe as it could be. Padova required us to cross Brennero at FL 160 and wouldn‘t let us descend afterwards either (same for other aircraft). They did an exaggerated spacing (severe VMC) for the 3 aircraft inbound and also did not accept „overhead the field, ready to cancel IFR“ - we had to fly almost to Trento and hold at FORER before we could descend for the VOR approach fur RWY 01. With gear down, minimum power and speedbrakes we managed to land on RWY 01.Service on the ground was friendly, we had to register as it was the first time there, but after 5-10 mins the paperwork was done and we were good to go.

Fees are moderate for general aviation. Example: landing and four days’ parking about €100; landing and 24h parking about €20–50; short stops (1–4 hours) range from about €20–50 depending on services used. Passenger fees may apply in addition to landing charges.
Fuel services are split: Jet A1 is provided by the airport at competitive prices, while Avgas (100LL) and Mogas are only available through the local aeroclub during limited hours—advance phone coordination is recommended. Payment by card at the aeroclub is possible but not always guaranteed; fueling can be slow if staff are busy.
The GA terminal staff are consistently described as friendly, helpful, and German-speaking; however, expect some bureaucracy at check-in and security. Security procedures resemble those of larger airports. Customs/immigration is available without advance notice on weekdays during published hours; outside these times or on weekends/holidays, prior arrangement by email or phone is required (generalaviation@bolzanoairport.it or +39 0471 255204).
Ground transport options include taxis to Bolzano city center (about €20–25), with journey times of 5–15 minutes depending on traffic; bus stops are within 5–10 minutes’ walk from the terminal with frequent service to downtown. Rental cars from major providers such as Europcar and Hertz are available at the terminal.
Facilities include maintenance services (availability varies), occasional construction works affecting apron access, and a café/bar in the terminal (may be closed during renovations). Several hotels are within walking distance.
Terrain around LIPB makes approaches challenging—thorough briefing using current charts is essential. Radio contact when arriving from the north may only be possible near designated reporting points due to mountainous surroundings. In wet weather, grass parking areas can become soft or muddy.
LIPB offers efficient customs processing for flights arriving from Switzerland or outside Schengen, making it a practical entry/exit point for northern Italy. Overall, Bolzano provides reliable GA access with moderate fees, friendly service, and good connections to both city amenities and alpine destinations.
