LIEA (Alghero) requires PPR, which is easily obtained by email to ops@sogeaal.it, typically with a prompt response. Both VFR and IFR operations are supported, with ILS and LNAV/VNAV approaches available on the 3000m runway. Handling is mandatory. Procedures on arrival and departure can be time-consuming, with possible delays for handlers and payment processing; walking through the terminal and security is standard, and handlers may take 15–20 minutes to arrive. Startup clearance requires a handler to be present for pushback and radio confirmation before tower clearance.
Fees vary significantly: examples include about €60 for 3 nights parking and handling, about €100 for landing plus a week of parking, about €120 for landing plus a week of parking, about €250 for handling and 6 days parking, and about €300 for 3 nights including handling. Handling is generally described as not expensive relative to airport size, but can be higher depending on circumstances.
No Avgas is available at LIEA; nearest Avgas is in Figari or Bastia. Jet-A1 is available but may be expensive. Car rentals from major companies are widely available at the terminal; online booking is recommended for better rates. Ground transport by car is common; walking distances within the airport are short but passengers are typically transported by car (often a small Fiat Panda) between terminal and aircraft.
Security checks require pilot license presentation; expect thorough document checks on departure. No routine customs or passport control for Schengen flights has been noted. The approach frequency is shared with Olbia, which can make radio contact challenging during busy periods; see AIP/NOTAM for procedural details.
Alghero itself offers attractive beaches and a scenic old town nearby. Facilities such as accommodation and tourist information are available in the terminal. Overall, LIEA is suitable for non-commercial GA flights but expect variable ground handling efficiency and fee levels.
