PPR is required for both landing and parking, typically arranged by emailing handling@airgest.it or operativo@airgest.it using a provided form; responses are generally quick and efficient. The airport is dual-use (civil/military), with a civil side mainly serving Ryanair flights. Handling is mandatory, with charges structured as approximately €30 per movement (arrival and departure) plus a €50 administrative fee, and an additional €50 fee applies for changes to arrival or departure times or locations. Example: total handling about €110 for a round trip without changes. Payment is made on departure at the Airgest office, usually taking around 15–20 minutes due to paperwork.
The apron is usually spacious, and marshallers meet arrivals and provide transport to the handling office. Aircraft are tied down by staff; if tie-down rings are unavailable, weights can be provided on request. Fueling (Jet A1) is available through World Fuelling Services, with fueling generally smooth and quick; Avgas is not available. No crew or passenger lounge or other amenities are noted.
Rental cars are readily available on site, but advance booking is recommended for better rates. The airport serves as a practical base for visiting western Sicily, including Trapani, Marsala, and the island of Favignana (accessible via a 30-minute boat trip from Trapani port).
Prevailing winds often favor runway 31L. The airport staff are described as friendly and competent, though interactions with security may be less smooth. For all operational details and any procedural variations, see AIP/NOTAM.
