Palermo / Punta Raisi Airport (LICJ)

PPR and handling are mandatory at LICJ, with handling typically arranged via Aer Sicilia (ops@aersicilia.it). Email requests are generally answered promptly, but some pilots experience delays or lack of response through other channels. IFR and VFR arrivals are straightforward, with professional ATC and clear procedures, though runway changes on short notice can occur. Expect all ground movements to be marshalled, sometimes resulting in significant waiting times for follow-me vehicles and handling staff.

Fees for landing, parking, and handling are high compared to typical GA airports. Example: total charges about €170. Handling fees alone range from about €50 to €160 depending on services and duration. Example: handling about €90. Additional surcharges may apply for services such as minibus transfers or fire extinguisher checks.

AVGAS is available via Nautilus but must be pre-ordered in exact quantities; there are reports of invoiced amounts exceeding delivered fuel by up to 10 liters. Payment for fuel is required on the spot.

Transport to Palermo city center is possible by taxi (about €70) or by regular bus and train services; travel time can be significant due to the airport’s distance from the city (about 30 km).

Expect slow ground processes, with long waits for paperwork, marshalling, and access between terminal and apron. All pilots must request PPR in advance and bring confirmation; without it, access may be denied despite available parking.
