Debrecen (LHDC) offers customs and immigration without prior notice, which is uncommon in Hungary and useful for flights exiting the Schengen area. IFR and VFR operations are supported, but opening hours may be restrictive and are sometimes aligned with scheduled airline traffic; outside these times, PPR is required and can incur very high surcharges. Procedures and service levels vary, with some reports of efficient handling but others describing significant delays, especially when commercial flights coincide.
Fees for non-commercial GA are generally high. Example: landing about €140 and handling about €130 for a 2.3t aircraft. For smaller aircraft under 2 tonnes, fees are substantially lower; one example shows landing and handling together about €60–€70. Additional surcharges may apply, and invoices often separate landing, handling, and noise charges.
AVGAS availability is inconsistent; some reports state it is no longer available or only JET A1 is offered. When available, AVGAS prices have been relatively high. Fueling can be slow if commercial traffic is present.
Taxis to the city center have a fixed price of 3,000 HUF (about €10), with the city described as pleasant and accessible. No on-field restaurant or café is mentioned.
Security procedures can be bureaucratic, with mandatory security checks even for GA departures. Service quality varies from very friendly to indifferent or unhelpful depending on staff and circumstances.
Overall, LHDC provides essential international services for GA but at a relatively high cost and with variable efficiency; procedures vary—see AIP/NOTAM.
