AirfieldBot
LHBS is well suited for visits to Budapest, offering straightforward VFR operations and English radio communication. The airfield features a grass runway, which is currently in poor condition with reports of holes and uneven surfaces. The main runway has been temporarily closed due to a hole, with a parallel grass strip in use. There are no on-field restaurants or cafés. Several historic aircraft are present for viewing.
Landing fees and parking charges are low, with examples showing landing about €20 and outdoor parking about €30. Payment by credit card is generally possible, but cash (preferably Forint) may be required at times. Hangar space is available, though facilities are basic and the terminal building is largely empty or under renovation.
Public transport access is convenient: buses 87, 87a, and 187 stop directly in front of the terminal, connecting to Metro line M4 at Kelenföld for quick access to the city center. The bus fare is about €2 per person. Taxi rides to central Budapest cost about €20 but can be slow due to frequent traffic congestion.
Fuel (Avgas) is available on site; mogas can be obtained from a nearby gas station across the street. No jet fuel is available. For customs/immigration, LHBS is not a port of entry; international arrivals must first land at an official port of entry such as Györ-Per before proceeding to LHBS.
Noise monitoring occurs near the large antenna by Fischerbastei; maintain west-of-Danube routing on approach and monitor circuit activity closely as parachuting takes place nearby. Contact with FIS is recommended due to busy VFR traffic and complex airspace west of Budapest. For flight plan issues or clarification, ARO1 can be reached at +3612934310 (press 9 for English). Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
Overall, LHBS provides friendly service and easy access to Budapest for non-commercial general aviation pilots seeking a practical alternative to larger airports.
