LGKL operates as a joint military/civilian airport and functions as an airport of entry for Greece. PPR is required; permission can be obtained via Aopa.gr or by contacting d1a@hcaa.gr, with approval typically within a day, though some sources mention a 3–7 day lead time. Handling is mandatory, with multiple agents present; Skyserv and Signature Aviation are available, but handling fees vary widely. Example: total fees for three days with Skyserv about €140 (with AOPA discount), while Signature Aviation charged about €1,490 for a short stay, with less than €100 of that as airport fees and the remainder for handling. Persistence with Skyserv may yield better rates.
The civil apron is small, and parking is limited, especially for longer stays; parking behind blast fences may be arranged. IFR night approaches are possible but runway lighting is minimal. No Avgas is available. Taxis to Kalamata arrive quickly and cost about €20. Car rentals are available off-airport.
Large birds have been observed on the taxiway, requiring caution during ground movements. For departures, SLT and PPR are necessary; see AIP/NOTAM for procedural details.
