Pilot Comments for LFSN
Tobias
Basically, everything’s been said: very good for a visit to the (beautiful!) city. IFR approach, short walking distances, good public transport links: bus from stop "Pottier" to Place Stanislas in 10 minutes. The AFIS operators speak perfect English and are very helpful. Parking directly in front of the small terminal, restaurant looks nice but we didn’t try it. For re-entry, have the radio frequency handy as the code. Neither on arrival nor on departure was anyone in the C office, so no landing fee paid. Recommended: Hotel "Les Prélats" in a beautiful historic building, very central next to the Cathédrale Notre Dame.
UPDATE 2025: Hotel "Les Prélats" does no longer exist. „Hotel de Guise“ is similarly charming, centrally located and reasonably priced

LFSN (Nancy-Essey) offers straightforward VFR and IFR operations with AFIS providing clear English communication; payment for landing and parking is handled via the Aerops/AirOps app, with no need for in-person interaction. The airfield features a 1700 m paved runway and self-service fuel available during operating hours, accepting major credit cards; a Total card is required outside business hours, but staff can assist if needed. The on-field restaurant "Les Têtes Brulées" is highly recommended, open for lunch daily (12:00–14:00) and dinner on Friday and Saturday (19:00–21:00); reservations are advised on weekends. Example: landing and parking about €60 for three days.
Ground transport to Nancy city center is primarily by bus, with the stop 600–800 meters from the airfield; buses are free on weekends and tickets can be purchased onboard at other times. Uber is available and typically arrives within minutes, though availability may be limited on weekends; taxis are often difficult to arrange. Walking to the city center takes about 45 minutes.
Access to the terminal and apron is via a code based on the radio frequency. The airfield has ample parking, WiFi in the terminal (code: NANCYESSEY), and a PC for self-briefing. When approaching from the west, be aware of complex military airspace; consult Strasbourg FIS for current status. During lunch breaks, radio may be French-only as per NOTAMs.
LFSN is well-suited for general aviation visits to Nancy, offering reliable infrastructure and convenient access to a UNESCO-listed city center.
