Pilot Comments for LFRK
Brice
Easy and friendly airport, but you need to email ahead for a PPR to arrive as they seem to want to manage it with airline traffic. With the CTOT I got, ended up arriving just as an airliner was leaving though...
I got parked on the grass apron. Be careful, it's a bit confusing how to walk back to the terminal, we cut it too short and people told us off, so need to walk all the way to the fuel station before crossing the main apron.
Went for a weekend and note that while most car rental are closed on weekend, Entreprise is opened on Saturday and I could rent a car and return it Sunday in the key box, which works well for a weekend

LFRK Caen-Carpiquet is a friendly, well-equipped airport suitable for general aviation with both IFR and VFR operations. Runway 13/31 offers ILS and VOR approaches, and ATC provides clear English communication. PPR is generally required, especially on weekends or due to airline traffic, with requests typically made via aerotrafic@caen.cci.fr; a written confirmation number is provided by email. Slot times may be needed. Customs/immigration for non-Schengen flights requires 24-hour PPR by email or phone; for Schengen flights, no customs notification is needed. Procedures may vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
GA parking is usually on grass in good condition, though hard apron parking is also available. High-visibility vests are required when walking airside, and access to the terminal must follow designated routes. Staff often check pilot licenses and IDs, and may escort pilots over the apron. Fuel (Avgas via Air BP card or attendant) is available at the self-service pump; after swiping the card, reset the counter to zero before fueling.
Landing and parking fees are low for general aviation. Example: landing and two days’ parking about €20; three days about €40; one day plus landing about €40. Fees are paid at the terminal office.
Facilities include a small terminal with a bar/café (quality varies), vending machines for drinks/snacks, car rental desks (limited weekend hours), and a C-office for flight planning. Car hire should be arranged in advance; some providers offer key drop-off for weekend returns. Bus service to Caen city departs directly from the terminal every 15 minutes on weekdays and hourly on weekends; journey time is about 30 minutes with fares around €2. Taxis cost about €20–€30 to the city center.
Safety notes: Parking is typically on grass without tie-downs provided—bring your own if needed. Grassy taxiways can be uneven and may not suit aircraft with low propeller clearance. High-visibility vests are mandatory airside.
LFRK provides easy access to Caen and Normandy’s historic sites, making it a practical base for visiting the region. Staff are consistently described as helpful and professional, and English is widely spoken throughout airport operations.
