Civil Airfield Carpentras (LFNH)

LFNH (Carpentras) is a straightforward, pilot-friendly airfield with both VFR and IFR operations available. Communication is in French on an air-to-air frequency, and circuit entry is typically via overhead at 1900 ft. No PPR is required. The runway is in good condition and long, but crosswinds can be harsh due to the proximity of the mistral. Glider activity is common because of the nearby Mont Ventoux. Taxiways are limited; backtracking on the runway is standard, as some taxiways are gravel or less suitable for propellers.

Self-service fuel (Avgas 100LL and UL91) is available 24 hours via card payment (Visa/MasterCard), but single transactions are capped at €145–150 per card, requiring multiple cards for full tanks. The airfield has a small lounge and drinks available during the day, but no restaurant or café on site and little shade. The field is fenced but often open; after hours, pilots may be alone with limited services.

Ground transport options include local B&Bs within 2–5 minutes by car, many offering free pickup from the apron. Car hire agencies are located in Carpentras, about 5 km away; walking to town takes 30–60 minutes if no pickup is arranged.

Landing fees are low. Example: landing fee about €5. Payment may not always be collected if no staff are present.

The airfield sits near restricted zones, but these do not usually present operational issues; check AIP/NOTAM for procedures. No customs or immigration services are available.

LFNH offers a relaxed atmosphere ideal for fuel stops or as a base to explore Provence, with minimal formalities and easy access to local accommodation.
